Bruce Lindberg, Headmaster

Mr. Lindberg is entering his seventh year as headmaster of Lee BruceAcademy. During the past six years Lee Academy has prospered, flourished and expanded. Just six short years ago our dorm hosted roughly twenty students, today our dormitories have over one hundred. Throughout this expansion, our local numbers have stayed consistent as well.

Bruce came to Lee after more than thirty years in public education. Previously he served in administrative positions throughout Maine and Colorado. Throughout his career, Mr. Lindberg has been recognized for his accomplishments in leadership, teaching and coaching. During his tenure at Lee, the school has been recognized as the “Innovative Business” in Maine for 2009. Also the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce has honored the academy as well.

Mr. Lindberg is a product of the University of Maine system and he holds both a Bachelors degree in English, as well as a Masters degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Maine Orono.  Prior to entering the world of administration, Mr. Lindberg taught English.

Known throughout the academic world as an individual whose vision expands beyond the traditional norms, he has been responsible for the changing face of the Academy.  Under his leadership is the establishment of the Daegu International School in Daegu, South Korea. This school is a branch of Lee Academy located in a large city in South Korea. Their curriculum is identical to that of Lee Academy, and this year, four students from Daegu have decided to attend Lee Academy here in the United States.

Academically, great strides have been made during the past six years as well. The Advanced Placement offerings have grown from three to the current fourteen. Also significant gains have been made in foreign language, theatre arts and music. College placement and selection by the students has changed significantly also.

Bruce is the proud father of two children. Hope resides in Sorrento, Maine with her husband John and daughter Grace. Currently she is employed as the guidance counselor at Ellsworth High School. David lives in Lynn, Massachusetts with his wife Tina. David is the head coach of men’s basketball, as well as serving as the associate director of admissions at Fisher College in Boston.

 

Harris "Butch" Arthers, Associate Headmaster

Mr. Arthers brings more than 30 years of experience to Lee Academy.Butch Athers A 1972 graduate of Mattanawcook Academy in nearby Lincoln, Mr. Arthers went on to earn both a Bachelor of Science in education with a concentration in mathematics and a Master's in education administration from the University of Maine in Orono. His first teaching position brought him home to his alma mater, MA, where he also coached wrestling, track, basketball, and football. His next stop was South Berwick, Maine and Marshwood High School where he taught mathematics and coached track, basketball, softball and football. Since 1990, Mr. Arthers has held a variety of roles at Belfast Regional High School in Belfast, Maine, including Athletic Director (7 years), Assistant Principal (11 years), and Principal (8 years). He was also Belfast's head football coach for 16 seasons where he successfully led the team to three state championships in 1996, 1999, and 2003.He and his wife, Angela, make their home in the Pottle House on campus and are parents to two grown children Nicholas and Jacob, who both excelled at baseball for Husson University.

Ollie Faulkner, Dean of Students

Mr. Faulkner lives in Springfield with wife Lynn, along with Michael, Matthew and Cayden, ages 10, 7 and 2.  Their daughter, Caitlin ’10, is a student at Husson University.  This is his seventh year at Lee Academy, after teaching mathematics for nineteen years at schools around the state, as well as coaching several sports, including basketball. Formerly, he was a Tech Prep liaison for community colleges. He graduated from Maine Central Institute, then the University of Maine, Orono with a bachelor’s degree in education. In addition to being Dean of Students, he is also the secretary to the Board of Trustees, Chairman of the Safety Committee at Lee Academy, and Chairman of the Executive Committee of Group Trust for Insurance, an organization that also serves nineteen other member institutions.

Randy Harris '80, Athletic Director/Coach

Mr. Harris graduated from Lee Academy and went on to Husson RandyUniversity in Bangor where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Recreation Management and completed a Physical Education major at the University of Maine. He lives in Lee with wife Patty, daughter Brooke ’08, and son A.J ’11. He is in his twenty-seventh year at Lee Academy. He particularly enjoys baseball, having played at Marietta College and at Husson, as well as in Florida in the minor leagues. He has coached baseball for twenty years at Lee Academy and also loves the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He is an avid golfer. Mr. Harris serves as the athletic director and continues to coach Lee Academy boy’s varsity basketball coach, whose 2011 team reigns as the Class C State Champion. He previously coached girl’s soccer for 13 years, as well.

Deborah Jacobs, Director of Admissions

Mrs. Jacobs, a thirteen-year employee of Lee Academy, previously Debbieserved as the Administrative Assistant to Admissions and Development. In her role as Director of Admissions she oversees recruitment and admissions efforts for Lee
Academy. Prior to her role as the Admissions Director, she has held a variety of positions at Lee Academy, including secretary to the guidance department, and the school registrar. Her experience also includes working as an administrative assistant for an oral surgeon and secretary in the emergency department of Maine Medical Center in Portland. She and her husband, Bob, owned and operated Mill Stream Grocery in Springfield, Maine, for more than twenty years, and Jacobs serves on the Board of Selectman for the town of Lakeville in her spare time.  She has two grown children, Travis ’99 and Tabitha ’96, along with five grandchildren.

Kevin Ritchie, Dean of Academics

Mr. Ritchie lives on Lookout Mountain in Lee, with his wife Kendra. Mr. Ritchie graduated with a bachelor of science degree in sociology and a minor in English from University of Maine, Orono, where he later received his Master’s in Educational Leadership. Kevin Ritchie In his 27 years at Lee Academy he has tutored migrant students, taught ninth grade writing, English, and History and has served as Assistant Headmaster, Development Officer, founder and advisor of Entropy (LA’s literary and art publication), and JV and assistant varsity basketball coach. For sixteen years, he was co-owner of the Springfield Fairgrounds, hosting one of the oldest agricultural fairs in Maine. He enjoys basketball, writing, reading, basic carpentry, travel, kayaking, snowshoeing, cutting firewood and eating ice cream! Mr. Ritchie and his wife have a son Aaron '92, who is a paramedic-nurse and married to Theresa, as well as being grandparents to Matty, Aidan, Elijah and Finnegan.  Their daughter Aarika ’08 is a senior at Colby College in Waterville.
