About Mr. Milton:

Jeremy Milton holds a B.M. in Music Education Cum Laude from the University of Maine, and has begun coursework for a Master of Music degree in Conducting. As a performer, he has attained numerous lead roles in both musical theatre productions and operas including A Chorus Line, Into the Woods, and Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro. He is currently a member of Euphony, a highly select 32 voice choir that specializes in 20th century a cappella choral music. He is also a frequent guest soloist and has been featured in both the Fauré Requiem and the Mozart Requiem. As a music educator, Mr. Milton has guest conducted several groups and served as conductor and assistant conductor for many musical theatre productions, choirs and bands and teaches music privately. He has conducted throughout the northeastern United States, Canada and Europe, and has been a guest speaker at clinics and workshops for future Music Educators. Since taking over the direction of the music department at Lee Academy, enrollment in music has more than quadrupled, with an expansive curriculum covering a variety of musical topics. Mr. Milton is a member of both the Music Educators National Conference and the American Choral Directors Association. In addition to his duties at Lee Academy, he also teaches music at the Maine Summer Youth Music program on the University of Maine campus for three weeks each summer.

Lee Academy Music Program

Lee Academy offers a full range of courses both for students interested in pursuing a career in music, or just for those who simply enjoy it. Classes include:

Private instruction (for boarding students, and upon availability)

For students who may be interested in studying music at the post-secondary level, LA's music curriculum has been designed with the goal that students who graduate from Lee Academy after taking all of the music courses offered will be able to successfully major in music at a post-secondary institution in the United States. Lee Academy is dedicated to its students having every advantage possible when they go on to pursue a post-secondary education.

LA's music curriculum is also designed to cover a broad range of musical topics, so even if you don't plan to pursue music post-secondary, there is still plenty of opportunity to become involved and learn. Colleges and universities look for students who pursue a diverse curriculum during their high school career. Getting involved with music at Lee Academy is the perfect way to show colleges how diverse and talented you are! Guitar

Music is beneficial to everyone for a variety of reasons. According to The College Board, Profile of College-Bound Seniors National Report, Students of the arts continue to outperform their non-arts peers on the SAT. In 2006, SAT takers with coursework and experience in music performance scored an average of 57 points higher on the verbal portion of the test and an average of 43 points higher on the math portion than students with no coursework or experience in the arts.

In addition to these benefits, at Lee Academy we have found that international students studying English as a Second Language who are involved in the music program have improved their English skills at a faster rate than those who are not.
