Lee, Maine ~ An original sketch by senior Lee Academy student Corey Lacoote has been selected to be part of an art show sponsored by a well-known and respected Maine art gallery.
The Abbe Museum in Bar Harbor offers innovative exhibitions and programs on Maine’s Native American heritage. The Abbe is a contemporary museum located in the heart of one of Maine's most popular tourist destinations, Bar Harbor.
Corey's sketch will be on display at the Abbe Museum through the fall of 2010 as part of a student art show entitled 'Waponahki'. The 11 X 14 graphite sketch of an eagle was drawn in teacher Emily Rideout's Art II class at Lee Academy and submitted for consideration earlier this spring. "I am so proud of Corey, certainly because of this accomplishment, but even more because he is a great young man whodeserves to be encouraged and recognized for his talent," said Rideout.
Corey is the son of Jerry Stevens of Indian Township. A senior who will graduate from Lee Academy on June 5th, he plans to attend theUniversity of Maine at Machias in the fall majoring in English.
