Lee Academy to Introduce Audio Internet Streaming
Written by Candance Gifford '84
Headmaster Bruce Lindberg announces efforts are underway to bring audio Internet streaming of events to Lee Academy and its community. The school, which has a current enrollment of 247, has been researching various methods for providing access to live events for students, families and community members, who may not have the capability of being there in person.
" Our first efforts are going to be focused on audio streaming technology”, says Candance Gifford, Student Services Coordinator for the school, “and we hope to eventually expand upon that with the introduction of live web streaming via the Internet.” The idea behind the concept stemmed from a wish to provide access to graduation exercises, various athletic contests and other campus events. “With today’s technology, geography should not be a reason to miss your son’s or daughter’s special event.” says Gifford. “As you might expect, school budgets are looming large in everyone’s mind, so we must be cautious with any new endeavor to ensure that it does not create additional fiscal burdens, but at the same time providing our Lee Academy families with a much needed resource,” she added. These technological advances could eventually allow a family in New York, South Korea, or Topsfield, to tune in and hear the valedictory address on graduation day, or simply cheer on their favorite athlete as they make a run for February’s coveted gold ball.
While still in the very early stages of the process, the school is making headway and hopes to perform a trial run by bringing live audio from the Bangor Auditorium as the boys’ basketball team begins their quest for a Class C title.
