Welcome to the Official Web Site of Lee Academy

Student & TeacherDear Friends of Lee Academy:

Thank you for your interest in LA. I hope you find our website informative and easy to navigate.

We are excited and enthusiastic regarding the start of the 2008-09 school year. Our overall enrollment is the largest in recent years, with our student population made up of local, domestic, and foreign students. Diversity is certainly a word to describe Lee Academy's student body.

Academically, wonderful progress has been made over the past few years and, in the near future, our entire curriculum will be posted on this website. As a direct result of our faculty's hard work, our SAT and ACT scores have increased considerably over the past few years.

Here are some recent statistics that may come as a surprise to you, considering Lee Academy's rural setting:

  • Lee Academy offers as many Advanced Placement (AP) courses as schools more than 3 times its size, including Bangor High School.
  • LA's math team was crowned eastern Maine champions and runners up at the state level.
  • 88% of the class of 2008 was accepted to college, and 100% of the class of 2007 was accepted.
  • The Class of '07's Valedictorian, Kevin Demers, was named a National AP Scholar - an honor granted to students in the U.S. who receive an average grade of at least 4 on all AP exams taken.
  • Not one, but TWO recent LA grads, Shelby Pickering '05 and Aarika Ritchie '08, were awarded SAMMY awards, given each year to just 25 high school student athletes nationwide in recognition of outstanding academic performance, athletic excellence, leadership skills and community service.
  • Two Class of 2008 graduates, Amanda Gifford and Aarika Ritchie, were named NSCAA (National Soccer Coaches Association of America) Adidas Academic All Americans last year, two of only 35 selected nationally.
  • Senior athletes from the class of 2008 won 8 state championships in 4 years. Soccer (3), basketball (2), baseball (1), softball (1) and cross country (1)!

LA's beautiful, natural surroundings continue to be an important part of our student programming. Outings include hikes on Mt. Katahdin, numerous events at the University of Maine, shopping excursions in Freeport and Kittery, and various trips to the beautiful Maine coast. Safety and a clean, healthy environment continue to be the backbone of our picturesque campus.

I am extremely proud to be the headmaster of Lee Academy. Since 1845 LA has been a vital part of independent secondary education in Maine and I am excited to be a part of such a long-standing, quality school. If I can answer any of your questions please feel free to contact me either by email, or by phone at 207-738-2252.
