Two incredibly supportive and generous alumni have committed Leadership Matching Gifts totaling $25,000. Until April 30, each dollar you donate to the Panda Annual Fund will be matched dollar for dollar. Our two alumni hope their commitment to match your gifts will inspire our Lee Academy family to support student educational resources, faculty development, and campus renewal. Each dollar you contribute will have a direct, positive impact on our Lee
Academy community, and for the next two months, your donations will have double the impact. Let’s achieve our $25,000 goal by April 30 to receive the full match.
Lee Academy students have been actively thriving over the winter months. Congratulations to the eight newest members recently inducted to the Lee Academy Chapter of the National Honor Society. The 2022-2023 inductees are Jeff Trinh, Kyrah DeLaite, Alyssa Scott, Aubrey Gifford, Trinity Smith, Harmony Vermazani, Sierra Lank, and Zoey Gilks. These students are distinguished for their scholarship, character, leadership, and service.
Three of our students were recipients of the prestigious Maine Youth Leadership Award – Daisy Martin, Noah Lattig, and Taryn Budge. The program recognizes students who have demonstrated leadership in their community and seeks to create a network of civic-minded students who will better their communities through volunteering. Only 120 sophomores from across Maine are invited to attend a four-day leadership summit in June. Thank you to our entire faculty and staff for supporting, nurturing, and educating our students inside and outside the classroom. You are Angels Among Us.
Our girls’ and boys’ basketball teams have recently completed thrilling seasons. Our community is proud of both teams' commitment, hard work, talent, and sportsmanship in every game. Our teams represented Lee Academy with distinction, and it was heartwarming to see our community consistently turn out in enthusiastic support of the teams. The atmosphere in Mallett Gymnasium was electric!
Randy Harris, our boys' basketball coach, has been inducted into the Maine Basketball Hall of Fame. Randy has coached over 750 games and accumulated 411 wins in 39 years at Lee Academy. Randy, a standout athlete in high school, played soccer, basketball, and baseball at Husson before heading home to teach and coach at Lee. His Pandas captured the 2011 Class C State Championship and the Eastern Maine Regional title in 2012. Most important, Randy has positively impacted the lives of numerous Lee Academy students. Thank you to Randy Harris for being an Angel Among Us.
I also wanted to share a personal story about our Lee Academy community. Our family was driving home after the Super Bowl. The night was dark, the air was bitterly cold, and the roads were dangerously slick. As we drove down Lee Road, our tire punctured and completely deflated. We pulled into the driveway of the next house, which happened to be the home of Sherry and Mike Bourgoin. They warmly greeted us and, without hesitation, handed us their car keys so we could safely get home. We were never stranded because we live in this wonderful community. Neighbors helping neighbors. Their daughters are Lee Academy graduates, and their grandchildren attend Lee Academy. Thank you to the Bourgoin family for being Angels Among Us.
